Katherine Bigelow Interview
The Hurt Locker
Director Katherine Bigelow discusses her movie, The Hurt Locker.
She was drawn to the script and knew she wanted to shoot the film as a documentary in real time.
The four units were invisible to the cast so they could feel as if they were living the experience in the streets of Baghdad.
The film was shot in Jordan near the Iraqi border in the summer.
The heat was 135 degrees and she tried to replicate the road side bombings which at times was incredibly difficult to achieve.
Last night Katherine Bigelow made history as the first woman in the Academy's history to win an Academy Award for best director. Her film also won Best Picture.
