Johnny Depp is interviewed by James Lipton. Inside the Actors Studio has featured many famous actors from the stage and screen.
Known for his sometimes bizarre choices in his film career Johnny talks about how he began his career as an actor and his family life.
His father was a civil engineer and his mother was a waitress. His parents divorced when he was 15 and his mother was his best friend. His first acting job was in a Wes Craven film Nightmare on Elm Street. Although his first love was music he was more successful as an actor.
He became a teen idol when he starred in television's 21 Jump Street and wanted out of his contract when he wanted to pursue his film career. He became a product that had nothing to do with who he was as a person and disliked being labeled a teen idol.
